Sometimes, the best way to tackle individual goals is to think about your more broad, big picture ambitions. Instead of creating a huge laundry list of things you’d like to accomplish, look at areas of your life that you’d like to improve in a more consistent and impactful way. To help you (and myself) do this, I’ve created a short worksheet to get the New Year off to a good start. The worksheet will guide you through refining which areas you’d like to see flourish as well as identify some new things to add to your daily routine. Here’s a breakdown of what the worksheet includes and how you can complete yours now!

  • Affirmation: This “success statement” is a short and memorable phrase to be repeated when you feel like you need to give yourself an extra motivational push. Your affirmation for the year should be written in present tense and in a tone that suggests that you’ve already accomplished what you’ve set out to achieve. Check out my 2013 affirmation here!
  • Big 5: Here is where you choose the five major areas of your life that you hope to improve upon in 2015. These can include things like career, education, finances, love, family, community, or health. Really take time to think about areas that you know are very important to your overall well-being but may have gotten neglected over the last few months.
  • Steps to Succeed: Determine 3 things that you can do over time to whip that life area into better shape than it is now. For example, if your life area is “spirituality” maybe one of your steps to succeed will include, “pray every morning when I first wake up”.
  • Reward: This section is for you to fast-forward and think about the benefits that you’ll reap once you have mastered this area of your life. When you can identify what you have to look forward to it makes committing to your goals much easier!
  • Healthy Habits: This is a list of habits that you would like to add to your daily routine that will improve multiple areas of your life (i.e. drink more water, get 8 hours of sleep every night, write in my journal daily). They don’t need a specific life area because doing these things regularly will help improve your life as a whole. Check out my success rituals here.
  • Word for 2015: This one word (yes, only one) should summarize what you would like to achieve or who you’d like to become. This will be your go-to reminder when you start to feel down and out about your progress and should reflect the way you’d like to feel through the entire year.
