- How can I serve?
- Who can I help?
- Will this please God or my ego?
These questions have been reoccurring thoughts for the last few weeks. Then this morning, my linesister (Thanks, Ashley!!) posted Proverbs 16:3 to her Snapchat and it got me thinking…
Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.
Are the things that I’m working to accomplish really about God’s will or just about me? I then came up with the idea to write down all of my goals and desires and decide how each could be used in service to others. (Click this link to download and complete the activity with me!) But before I actually wrote anything down, I started to think through some of my answers: “Lord, if I had _______, I would use it as a vessel to empower and inspire other women”. But no sooner than I had that thought did a little voice inside of me chime in. “Girl please. You were just complaining about having to do something for someone else”. Whew, sure told me! See, over the last couple of weeks I’ve been having meetings and responding to a ton of emails answering questions and giving advice. Most of that time I wasn’t feeling well and not in the mood to do much else other than lay in bed. But the reality is that even when I’m under the weather, committing to true service isn’t about me. This morning’s self-talk reminded me that all things done in service to others must be done with a cheerful heart.
So abandon your ego, get back to the source of your motivation, and embrace true servanthood. Oh, and complete the activity of course!
